Raptor Program: Presented by the Letcher County Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center

  • Breaks Interstate Park Amphitheatre 668 Commission Cir Breaks, VA, 24607 United States (map)

Join us at the Breaks Interstate Park Amphitheatre as we welcome Master Falconer, Mitch Whitaker from the Letcher County Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center. The Raptor Program reaches thousands of kids and does hundreds of educational programs each year delivering their message of wildlife education and conservation. The role of these mysterious and beautiful creatures in our environment, and how we interact is also a goal of the program.

The Letcher County Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Whitesburg, Ky houses injured birds of prey that are native to the area. The center is the only facility of its kind east of I-75 and services all of eastern Kentucky. Owls and hawks are cared for at the facility until the birds are ready to be released back to the wild. Birds that are unable to be released due to injuries are placed in the center’s Educational program. Educational birds are transported to schools, organizations, and events where they are showcased in the Raptor Program.

Our program relies on monies from programs and donations. We also ask our sportsmen and hunters to donate rabbit and squirrels taken during hunting season. All food donations need to be frozen. Please call Letcher Co. Extension office at 606-633-2362 for more information.
